Star Partner Program

South Hadley Public Schools has been involved with NASA's Star Partner Program since 2001. This program is growing and allows teacher to get excellent professional development and to interact  with other teachers around the country. Teachers are encouraged to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathmatics. They are required to create lessons, dedicate 20 or more hours a year and are encouraged to involve the community and other educational resources.

The following are teachers actively involved in the program

  • Lisa Manzi  - Smith Middle School - Master Teacher
  • Beth Craven - Smith Middle School - Star Partner
  • Deb Vanderpoel - Mosier School - Star Partner
  • Allen Gardner - Smith Middle School - Star Partner

Program Highlights

Teachers accepted into the program attend the Our Star Our Sun Summer institute at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez.

To stay an active member of the program they must create a lesson and do 20 or more hours promoting what they have learned.

Their second year they are invited to another location to follow up on what they have done and to have more professional development.

The program also has Star Partner Conferences where all active Star Partners attend.

  • 2004 Alaska
  • 2006 Salt Lake City Utah

After 2 years of participation teachers can apply to be Master Teachers. Only a select few get chosen each year.
